MigrationWare is a private owned IT company specialising in modernising legacy application systems by migrating these IT systems to cost-effective, contemporary technologies.

The company was established in 2000 and, through its Management Team alone, has in excess of 100 years of IT migrations experience, having executed many dozens of projects around the world. Our three directors are all actively involved in the business.


Typically, we assist companies that have IT systems that add significant value to the business, but need these applications to be protected from the threat of obsolete technology, high and rising licensing costs and skills shortages.

Our application migrations are all achieved through the use of automated tools that we develop, to convert legacy application source code, databases and data between languages, databases and platforms.

With these tools, together with our experience, our well-defined migration processes and our factory approach, MigrationWare is able to significantly reduce the costs and risks associated with legacy modernisation projects.


MigrationWare has a primary presence in the United Kingdom and South Africa with a presence in many other geographies as well.

MigrationWare conversion services are sold as source conversion services only through to complete turnkey solutions.

MigrationWare’s offerings deliver a considerable overall cost saving. These include:

  • Re-hosting projects where COBOL/CICS/JCL is retained on the target platform. The risk and cost of migration is low and investment in staff skills is retained for ongoing system development and maintenance.
  • Legacy Transformation projects where MigrationWare performs cross language translation, database conversion and application re-platforming. 4 GL languages are typically converted to COBOL.

On Client enquiry or following a sales lead, MigrationWare typically provides a Rough Order of Magnitude quote (ROM) initially based on a client questionnaire. The Client then identifies and submits the source code and data definitions for analysis. The source code analysis aims to firm up a price by identifying areas requiring customization, Client specific standards and classifying and quantifying the inventory. The Client is provided with a quote, the anticipated duration, a macro plan and information to justify the business case and the Client’s ROI.

Managing Director

Mark Cooper was appointed Managing Director of MigrationWare in 2003. With more than 35 years of experience in the ICT industry, 30+ years of which have been in migrations, Mark's contribution to MigrationWare has ensured sustainable and stable growth for the company.

Prior to joining MigrationWare, Mark held a number of senior managerial and directorship positions in both private and public ICT companies. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town.

João de Oliveira is a founding member of MigrationWare and is the Director of Sales and Marketing. João has been involved in a number of diverse technical and managerial positions in the ICT industry over the last 25 years. He has held the positon of sales and marketing director since joining MigrationWare.

Prior to his involvement with MigrationWare, João was the Technical Services Manager: Southern Africa for Micro Focus, with which MigrationWare now has partnership.

David Blencowe is also a founding member of MigrationWare and is the Technical Director, responsible for the architecture, design and the development of MigrationWare's products and tools.

David has been involved in the ICT industry for over 35 years, the majority of which have been spent focusing on migrations. Prior to MigrationWare, David was involved in establishing a number of private ICT companies and held senior management and directorship positions in these companies.

Technology Team


The MigrationWare Technology Team comprises of senior IT Consultants that are highly skilled and technically competent, mostly with over 10 years’ experience in the IT industry. Our Staff is proficient in a wide range of programming technologies and techniques, traversing legacy and contemporary technologies.

Tool and automation development skills are central to our offering. Our consultants have the experience and skills necessary to enable the delivery of new tools to address new sets of requirements and to customise existing tools to adapt to the requirements of new customers.
