FILE RESTRUCTURE
This utility provides for sophisticated file conversion features that allow an input file to be manipulated in various ways in order to produce a file that is potentially very different from the input file.
Some of the highlight features include:
- Conversion from EBCDIC to ASCII of formatted and multi record files (where a file can contain multiple records with different layouts)
- Create an output file which holds a subset of the input file data. This can be a subset based on a "narrowed" view of the input file, achieved by selecting only specified fields, or specified records.
- Conditional restructuring of a file based on specified logic that acts of data held in the input file.
- The ability to change field types, where for example a field defined as packed decimal in the input file will be written out as display numeric in the output file. Other capabilities in this area include the ability to change field lengths, which is useful for example with something like a policy number expansion or the expansion of fields holding monetary amounts.
- The ability to introduce new fields to the output file and allow for the specification of an initial value, or conditionally specify initial values.
