MigrationWare delivers successful project in Denmark

MigrationWare, the specialist applications migration and modernisation company, has completed the delivery of a large-scale IT modernisation project to Danish IT services provider Bankdata.

Bankdata is a Danish services organisation that provides IT services to several banks in Denmark, including the third and fourth largest. With the IT component of their businesses being managed by Bankdata, these banks are free to focus on their core competencies.

Functionally, these systems were still sound, which meant that replacement with a packaged solution or replacement through redevelopment would be extremely expensive and a risky option that offered little to no additional business value. The focus of the project was to deliver a cost-effective and low risk IT environment to host the legacy systems, all of which had largely been developed using technology that was becoming obsolete and becoming more expensive, thus exposing Bankdata to risk.

“The MigrationWare solution provided a technological migration, which would retain all existing business functionality to the extent that our business users would not actually be aware that the underlying application engine had changed,” said Bankdata IT Manager, Rasmus Sørensen.

“MigrationWare achieved this objective with great distinction, completing the project on time and within budget,” he said.

The project focused on the conversion of 53 business systems comprising a total of 8 330 computer programs, all of which had been written in a programming language called Mantis. In order to modernise these systems, the replacement of Mantis as a program language would be necessary, and MigrationWare, through the use of its automation tools, was able to achieve this key objective.

The entire project was delivered within a two-and-a-half year time-frame, according to Bankdata's requirements, with a large proportion of the work being conducted from MigrationWare's Cape Town offices. Remote connections to the Bankdata development environment meant that the MigrationWare project team was able to provide direct support for the new environment as it was deployed.

At the conclusion of the project, Bankdata was immediately able to discontinue the use of its legacy technologies and derived significant cost benefits through the consolidation of technology and the termination of existing licence fees.

Joao de Oliveira, Sales Director at MigrationWare, says: “Given the scale, the geographical distances between South Africa and Denmark, and the technical complexity of the project, the successful delivery of this project was a huge achievement for MigrationWare, an achievement of which we are very proud.”
